STANDARDS

  1. Gable roofs must converge, symmetrically, to a single ridge beam at their highest point.
  2. Gable ends must be located toward the narrowest building face or component face, except townhouses, live-work/ flex buildings, and bungalows must have a ridge beam that is oriented parallel with the frontage.
  3. Civic buildings are exempt from roof system regulation, the values presented in this table are guidelines only.
  4. The roofs of rear additions and side wings may not exceed the roof pitch of the primary building to which they attach.
  5. A clipped gable is permitted with the following conditions:
    1. The pitch of the clipped gable should be the same as the adjacent roof pitch.
    2. The clipped gable should be cut no lower than half of the height of the overall end gable, as measured vertically from the eave to the roof ridge.
    3. The clipped gable should be employed on both gable ends of the roof.
